The ESA (Victorian Branch) invites you to its flagship event for 2014, The Victorian Election Panel, where a pre-eminent panel will discuss the big policy issues facing our state
Held at the Rydges Hotel in Melbourne's CBD, the event provides the perfect setting for policy makers, academics and students to discuss the big policy issues facing our state.
Attendees must register prior to the event, and arrive early to check-in.

The speakers
Josh Gordon:
Josh Gordon is The Age's state political editor. After a brief period in the Sydney banking world and the federal bureaucracy, Josh spent six years working as The Age's economics correspondent at Parliament House in Canberra. After cutting himself adrift to travel the world, he was lured back to reporting early in 2007. Most recently he has worked as The Sunday Age's political editor, based in Canberra, and The Age's state economics correspondent in Melbourne.
John Stanley:
John Stanley is an Adjunct Professor and Bus Industry Confederation Senior Research Fellow in Sustainable Land Transport at the Institute of Transport and Logistics Studies, University of Sydney. Prior to taking this role, he spent nine years as Executive Director of Bus Association Victoria, after eight years as Deputy Chair of Australia’s National Road Transport Commission. He is a Board member of VicUrban and of Victoria’s Alpine Resorts Co-Ordinating Council and is an active participant in the Australian Davos Connection’s Australian programs. John was a key organiser of the ADC Infrastructure 21 Summit in 2008 and the ADC Cities Summit in 2010. He has been awarded an Australian Centenary Medal for services to public transport and conservation.
John Freebairn:
John Freebairn is a Professor of Economics at the University of Melbourne. His first degree was from the University of New England, and he completed a PhD at the University of California, Davis. John began his career with the NSW Department of Agriculture, and then moved to academia with appointments at ANU, LaTrobe and Monash universities, and a period of Research Director with the Business Council of Australia, before joining Melbourne in 1996.
He is an applied microeconomist and policy analyst, with current interests in taxation reform, climate change and water markets. Some of the results of his research have been published in international and Australian economics journals. He regularly contributes to the media.
